Why do I get better answers when I write a longer, clearer prompt?
Because the prompt is your steering wheel: the same model produces far better results when you spell out what you want, give context, and show the format. Vague in tends to mean vague out.
What is the difference between a prompt and a system prompt?
The prompt is what you type in each message, while the system prompt is a standing set of instructions working quietly in the background that shapes the AI's role and tone for the whole conversation. You control the prompt directly; the system prompt is usually set up once behind the scenes.
