Frequently asked questions

What are AI guardrails?

Guardrails are the rules and filters that keep an AI inside safe, on-topic, and accurate boundaries, blocking bad outputs or risky actions. They are what make it safe to point an AI at real customers and real systems.

How do guardrails keep an AI from going off the rails with my customers?

They set limits on what the AI can say and do, such as staying on topic, refusing harmful requests, and not taking risky actions without approval. That is what lets a business trust an agent in front of real customers.

Are guardrails the same as a system prompt?

They overlap but are not identical: a system prompt is one place guardrails get set, and guardrails can also include separate filters and checks around the model. Together they form the boundaries an AI operates within.
